The architectural integrity of the historic landmark building was a primary consideration in the design of the much needed expansion. As proposed, the addition and renovations transform and enhance the Library experience for patrons of all ages by consolidating the delivery of services, staff, and programs on one floor level.
The upper floor levels will be restored to their original ceremonial use including the magnificent rotunda, beautifully detailed reading rooms, and auditorium. This will enable the Library to function independently from Town events and community uses.
The ceremonial entrance to the library, with its Tennessee marble steps, will remain in use. The park-like setting of the Library is a precious town asset. The expansion will preserve and safeguard the Dutch Elms and other remarkable specimen trees.
